The PSA has responded to the Department of Justice’s “Managing Safety in Juvenile Justice Centres”, again calling for the establishment of specialist facilities to cater for the needs of detainees with violent or high-risk behaviours. Click HERE to view a copy of our letter.

Highlighting the need urgent action, our submission to the Department was made just hours before another serious assault at Cobham Juvenile Justice Centre.

Despite what has otherwise been asserted, the PSA has consistently engaged in good faith with the Department on the management of high-risk detainees.

We have spent nearly two years in conciliation proceedings before the NSW Industrial Relations Commission and have made concrete proposals in relation to the operation of specialist units.

Members at each of the state’s Juvenile Justice Centres voted unanimously for action on safety during last week’s state-wide stop work meetings, and the message couldn’t be clearer.

The time has come for real solutions and not just more talk. The NSW Government must act.
