Union pleads for increased security as hospital and prison staffers are brutalised – 7 News 06/08/2019

Months of violent outbursts have culminated in a series of distressing pictures showcasing the violence suffered by public and civil workers.

Thousands of NSW hospital staff walked off the job last Thursday to demand more security, only months after prison staffers did the same.

Hospital staff told 7NEWS they had seen nurses spat on and hit by patients.

“I’ve had to go around to someone in our emergency department and actually x-ray someone who had a knife in their back, put there by a patient.”

Public Service Association General Secretary Stewart Little said the effects of the violence is felt across several industries.

“Unfortunately, the violence NSW health workers are exposed to is also experienced by our members across the public service,” he told 7 News.
