Reduced operations at Cobham YJC due to Covid-19

The PSA is aware that Cobham YJC is now on reduced operations as a result of a staff member testing positive to Covid-19 whilst in the workplace for a period 1 and half shifts.

At yesterday’s JCC meeting (Thursday 19 August), the Executive Director provided his update on the recent Cobham Covid-19 incident including the following actions and plans in place:

  • A Covid-19 command post was set up and a contact tracing process commenced with around 60 staff members identified as having some contact and are completing various testing.
  • All young persons in Cobham are in lockdown procedure whilst contact tracing is undertaken to establish any young persons who may be required for medical isolation or rapid testing.
  • A small number of “at risk” staff with pre-existing health conditions have also been directed on special leave until further notice. Any members who have health concerns should discuss this with their Unit Managers and Centre Manager and consider available flexible arrangements in place.
  • Police are aware of the incident and are working with YJNSW to reallocate new admissions to Reiby YJC.
  • Each Centre is to undertake a process to demystify and raise awareness of the Covid-19 Action Plans with its staff.

The importance of PPE

The recent cases reinforce the importance of all staff regardless of their location being familiar with COVID protocols.  The PSA advises members to follow your Centre’s Covid-19 Action Plan and ensure strict adherence to the wearing of PPE and Covid-19 protocols.
