SES and Independent Flood Inquiry

The announcements made earlier this week in regards to the recommendations made by the Independent Flood Inquiry as you are aware has called for a merging of back office functions between SES and RFS.

The merging of back office functions you, your Commissioner and the Association have no knowledge as to what, or how this will be undertaken. Nor do we have any understanding as to how this will deliver a better service to the state of NSW in times of crisis.

It is disappointing that from this Inquiry and certainly the view from the PSA and in speaking with members within SES is that the blame has been laid against you.

For you we know that this is caused further stress,  further anxiety and uncertainty.

The PSA has been very open in the media against the merge of back office functions with RFS and we have stressed the importance of the role that you had undertaken during this flood event and the role that you should continue to take in support of the community’s across New South Wales as you are the experts in dealing with floods.

We have met with your delegates and will be asking you to join us in upcoming meetings and we want to hear from you:

  • As to what is your role,
  • Are you in Wollongong Headquarters?
  • Are you in another part of the state undertaking using the words of the Inquiry back office function and if so what is that role and where are you?

We encourage all members to join us to reach out and speak with your delegates and help us preserve you and the role of SES.
