Youth Justice: Body worn cameras and body scanners consultation update

Body worn cameras

Phase 1 of the rollout of body worn cameras at Frank Baxter YJC and Cobham YJC. This has been achieved because of the thorough consultative process that was put into place by the PSA.

The trial at these two centres is earmarked to commence some time before 31 December 2021

Court Logistics and S&I will be phase 2, which will be sometime in the new year and NOT till the same consultative process is carried out, including with staff, PSA delegates, WHS etc.

Body scanners

This appears to be progressing well with two scanners in the process of being purchased. The target date for trial of this initiative is also 31 December 2021.

Youth Justice is currently applying the necessary technical infrastructure to both Reiby and Cobham Youth Justice centres in preparation. Training will also be provided prior to implementation.

Youth Justice is seeking further funding and once received will look at introducing them at all Youth Justice centres as well as Parramatta and Surry Hills Court complexes.

Of course, the same level of consultation will take place prior to that happening as did when we consulted on the trial at Reiby and Cobham.
