Last Wednesday, the Combined Transport Unions (CTU) met with representatives of Transport for NSW (TfNSW) to progress preliminary discussion in relation to new TfNSW awards. While the CTU has served TfNSW with a Log of Claims, TfNSW is yet to present us with their negotiating parameters.
At the beginning of the meeting, we discussed correspondence received from the Premier’s Department regarding increases to remuneration for Public Sector workers covered by certain instruments, including both the RMS and TfNSW Awards. The CTU has advised TfNSW that we regarding the NSW Government’s proposal as a starting point only, and intend to press for further improvements to pay conditions under the RMS and the TfNSW Awards. In addition to pay, members identified the following as priority claims for the PSA:
- Strengthen Working From Home (WFH) entitlements
- End Forfeited Flex
- Scrap the cap on overtime
Members would also be aware that we remain in discussions with Minister Haylen’s office regarding the details of the Staff Opal Card. The CTU has provided TfNSW with feedback on a proposed Opal Card staff-survey which TfNSW has stated will be sent out for completion soon.
During the meeting, TfNSW signaled its interest in ‘harmonising’ the RMS and TfNSW Award; a claim which will be discussed closely with members if pursued further by TfNSW.
TfNSW also stated its hesitation about enshrining WFH in your Award. The employer claims the current procedure allows for WFH. We responded that the procedure is not fit for purpose if a rogue manager decides to unfairly restrict WFH. Further, our federal union, the CPSU, won WFH rights in all Australian Public Service Enterprise Agreements. We believe this model can be easily replicated in TfNSW Awards.
