Workload concerns – Community Corrections

Community Corrections - Workload Concerns - Nov 2019 (PDF version)

The PSA has expressed long-standing concerns about the workload levels in Community Corrections.

The PSA wrote to the Department seeking a meeting to discuss how to address current workload issues. This meeting took place with the Director Strategy – Community Corrections in early October 2019.

As a result of this meeting both sides agreed that it would be useful to establish focus groups from members in the field of both community and institutional.

Expressions of interest are sought from members who would like to be involved in these focus groups – please get in touch on the details below. The success of these focus groups will depend on having motivated members driving the process.

Since the October meeting, an email from the Department has also gone out acknowledging that electronic monitoring of workload has not been applying consistently but should have been fixed as of this week. However, there is still work to do with regards to the workload values for triaged offenders in the electronic monitoring.

The email also clarified some information with regards to case plan and EQUIPS data. Whilst the Department maintains there is no error with the report per se, they have provided some clarification of expectations to ensure data is up to date.

These matters have both been placed on the Agenda for the upcoming Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) with the Department on Wednesday, 20 November 2019.

Members will continue to be updated as these discussions continue.
