Maitland MP Jenny Aitchison has called on the NSW Government to reverse its decision to cut 35 jobs from Maitland Revenue NSW office
Maitland MP Jenny Aitchison has stepped up in parliament to demand the NSW Government immediately reverse its decision to axe 35 staff from the Maitland Revenue NSW office.
Ms Aitchison introduced a Notice of Motion into NSW Parliament on Tuesday, demanding the decision be reversed.
Revenue NSW is restructuring the service unit of its Maitland Collections Centre. As part of the proposed changes 35 positions will be cut.
Ms Aitchison joined Revenue NSW workers and members from the Public Service Association (PSA) outside the Maitland office last Wednesday to protest the job losses.
Ms Aitchison’s Notice of Motion mentioned that in the last three years, more than 200 public service jobs had been removed from Maitland.
“It’s a total disgrace that another 35 people in Maitland will lose their jobs,” she said.
In addition to the cut, the government is also proposing to move 40 Revenue NSW positions from Maitland to Gosford.
“The sovernment continues to rip the heart out of Maitland with 75 jobs going from this area,” she said.
“I’ll continue to fight these unfair cuts.”
