NSW Government Mobility policy – how it will affect Transport
We have been receiving questions from concerned members about the NSW Governments’ Mobility Policy. In essence, the policy ensures that TfNSW is fulfilling its obligation to meaningfully search across the public service to match unplaced workers to equivalent positions. Overall, this policy will help retain talent in the public service and reduce wasteful spending which will put us in a more favourable position to negotiate future pay rises.
‘Under the new policy, displaced workers will undergo a priority assessment process where they are matched to an equivalent role at TfNSW. If no role can be found, the search for a role for the displaced employee will then be extended to other agencies across the NSW Public Service. If no match is made within eight weeks, the employee will then undergo the BAU redeployment process.Fixed term contract, casual and labour hire workers are not eligible for the mobility policy; similarly, Sydney Trains and NSW Train Link will also be unaffected and are still bound by the Deed.
While TfNSW management has been corresponding with the PSA about these changes, we are not yet in a formal consultation period considering that this change has been made at the State level. However, changes will need to be made to the Transport Recruitment procedure and TfNSW Redundancy and Redeployment Procedure for the Mobility Policy to operate. When we receive the proposed changes, we will circulate another bulletin to seek feedback from our membership about the policy.
