Update: PSA meets with management on Certificate III discussions

Your union, the PSA, wants to provide you with an update following the recent discussion between the PSA and management regarding the Certificate III for Court Officers.

On December 13 2023 the PSA engaged in productive conversations with Deputy Sheriff Gordon (OCPC Director) and Superintendent Lawless (Academy Manager). The key points of discussion included:

Course structure Management is actively reviewing and realigning the Certificate III course delivery, due to its mandatory status after December this year.

Course delivery Options for paper-format course materials are being explored, with efforts to provide them to learners in advance upon request. Classes will be held in person at the Academy in Parramatta during work hours.

Study support Management advised us of its commitment to provide reasonable work hours for members to complete necessary homework assignments, with additional support available from the Academy if required. For members who need assistance with exploring additional options, please contact the PSA for further assistance.

Flexibility for existing staff Existing staff will have flexibility in completing the Certificate III, as per our last bulletin to members.

Voluntary Recognition of Prior Learning (RLP) option An RPL process is under review, offering members the opportunity to leverage their prior learning and experiences. Members who chose not to pursue the Certificate III can opt for the RPL course voluntarily, though completion may require some personal time investment. More detail regarding the RPL course and its requirements will be shared once the Certificate III course is officially rolled out.

For any questions or concerns, feel free to contact the Member Support Centre or your PSA Industrial Staff.
