Shared jail cells fine for crooks – The Daily Telegraph

The government is making no apologies over its crowded prisons as the state’s  jails prepare for an influx of violent and serious criminals caused by NSW’s tougher bail laws.

Attorney-General Brad Hazzard said prisoners doubling up in cells was fine, adding that crooks should be doing it tough inside prison.

“Tough new bail provisions and recent police operations have meant that more people being charged with serious offences are being kept in jail,” Mr Hazzard said.

“All this adds to a rapid rise in the prison population and yes, cells are even more uncomfortable that what they usually are. Let’s get serious – prisons are not hotels, they are places you go when you haven’t done the right thing.”
