Corrective Services NSW Administration and Stores restructure – December 2016 (PDF version)

On 17 November 2016, the PSA contacted the Industrial Relations Commission (IRC) of NSW requesting a relisting of the Administration and Stores restructure dispute.

The rationale for the relisting was:

  1. The Department agreed in two separate meetings to include delegates in a troubleshooting capacity to resolve centre by centre anomalies associated with the restructure. Despite this, the Department has not honoured the agreement.
  2. In a meeting at Long Bay Correctional Centre on 7 November 2016, a Departmental official made the comment that the PSA and delegates agreed to the restructure. Further, three key delegates were named and have received terse phone calls as a result.

The matter was heard before Commissioner Newall on 29 November.

Accompanying the PSA were four delegates whose expertise and input proved vital in the outcome of the proceedings.

This was reiterated by Commissioner Newall who also emphasised how important it is that delegates attend the Commission. Further, he considered that delegates play an integral role in the workplace and in IRC proceedings.

Commissioner Newall recommended the following:

  1. That the PSA, delegates and the Department meet as soon as possible to discuss outstanding concerns, and
  2. That the Department release a letter of retraction stating that neither the PSA nor delegates have agreed to the restructure.

In order to ensure his recommendations were adhered to, Commissioner Newall scheduled a report back at 2pm on 23 January, 2017.

The PSA will issue further bulletins to members as matters arise.
